Finite-size scaling study of shear viscosity anomaly at liquid-liquid criticality.
We study the equilibrium dynamics of a symmetrical binary Lennard-Jones fluid mixture near its consolute criticality. Molecular dynamics simulation results for the shear viscosity, η, from a microcanonical ensemble are compared with those from a canonical ensemble with various thermostats. It is observed that the Nosé-Hoover thermostat is a good candidate for this purpose, and is therefore adop...
متن کاملShear viscosity of liquid rubidium at the triple point
I n a recent paper we reported non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations of liquid rubidium using the isokinetic sllod algorithm for the dynamics and the Price potential for the interactions. New and more extensive results are presented which confirm that the results exhibit normal square-root behaviour of the shear viscosity as a function of strain rate at the triple point.
متن کاملShear viscosity of two-dimensional Yukawa systems in liquid state
The shear viscosity of a two-dimensional (2D) liquid was calculated using equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations with a Yukawa potential. The shear viscosity has a minimum, at a Coulomb coupling parameter Γ of about 17, arising from the temperature dependence of the kinetic and potential contributions. Previous calculations of 2D viscosity were less extensive, and for a different potential....
متن کاملComplex shear viscosity of a liquid 2D dusty plasma
Strongly-coupled dusty plasmas often exhibit liquid behavior. Liquids behave as a viscous continuum in the hydrodynamic regime. However, in the kinetic regime of a liquid, viscous and elastic effects occur at the same time [1], i.e., the liquid is said to be viscoelastic. To characterize the viscoelasticity of a liquid, the complex viscosity, () = () i(), is often used, where the real a...
متن کاملViscosity of liquid Fe at high pressure
Synchrotron x-ray radiography has been used to measure the viscosity of pure liquid Fe at high pressure and temperature in a large volume press. A probe sphere rising through liquid Fe at high pressure and temperature is imaged, in situ, allowing for the derivation of sample viscosity through a modified form of Stokes’ equation. The effect of pressure on viscosity is fit by the semi empirical f...
